WHAT I'VE DONE
WHAT I DO
I'm Jośef Spencer Hudson. I own an Interior Design Firm in Dallas, Texas. I'm orginally from a little bitty town in East Texas, called Wills Point, with a population of 2,986. That's where I credit my design sensibility. That "unexpected" element that characterizes my style can be attributed to the international residences and travels that I've been fortunate enough to stamp in my passport. I'm also a mom (to a pretty amazing kid) so things have to "work." Design has to function first! And I'm a wife (to an equally amazing guy). In this role, I've had to make sure design makes sen$e--if you know what I mean. Fortunately that task was not far fetched from my roots as a stock broker for the largest mutual fund company in the world. That's what I did in my former, pre-designer, life (which was after my studies at Southern Methodist University, and before El Centro design school--where I received my formal education). Collectively, that very abbreviated resume, contributes immensely to my values and personality, both personally and professionally.
This is always awkward. Who likes to talk about their accomplishments. It seems a bit narcassictic. But ok, here goes: The sum of my experience is, well, mixed. I know a lot of designers have fancy portfolios that showcase a definite "style." Well.....Not me.
The reality of it is that I started out taking whatever jobs were offered to me. Now, almost a decade later, I have earned the privilage to be more selective in the projects that occupy my time, but in all honesty, my portfolio still doesn't reflect "my style." I believe that a designer's goal should be to implement a refined version of the clients vision of themself. Therefore, the aesthetic of the homes I'm honored to design are as varied and different as the clients themselves. My goal in every residential project is to interject the soul of the client into the space. It's kinda sacred and I regard it as such. So please do not be surprised if I don't have perfect pictures of hardly lived in residences in my portfolio. That's not how I pick my clients. And that's not why they pick me.
Now for the commercial projects, that's a whole other ballgame. I've been fortunate to work on some very name worthy projects. From large shopping malls, hotels and luxury apartment complexes to (literally) some of the largest estates in the US. Regardeless of the square footage, my goal has remained the same, to create beautiful spaces designed to bring function and value.
With the breath of our experiences, you might be asking what exactly we do and specialize in? The answer to that question is: a little bit of everything. But not in the "jack of all trades, master of none" sense. In the two million square feet of space that I've designed over the past decade, I feel pretty confident in saying that my design firm has mastered each complex component of the design process.
Creating beautiful spaces that reflect individual style, is the easy part! The true value lies in utilizing the creative and thoughtful design, to enhance your home’s value, increase your workplace productivity, and even help to increase sales for your business.
